Birla Institute of Applied Sciences commenced its academic programme in 1989 in computer education , leading to MCA degree awarded by Kumaon University. Expanding the horizons for professional education, the institute also started a 3-year postgraduate B.Tech course in Electronics & Communication in the session 2000-01. This course has now been transformed into a 4-year program (post 10+2) with effect from the academic year 2003-04.Birla Institute of Applied Sciences offers 2 courses : MCA and B . Tech. (ECE &CS ),both of which are approved by the AICTE .
AFFILIATION AND ACCREDITATION
Birla Institute of Applied Sciences is affiliated with Uttarakhand Technical University , Dehradun and is approved by AICTE , New Delhi .
INFRASTRUCTURE
All the basic infrastructure facilities are available in the college including digital library , laboratory ,workshop , computing facilities , games & sports facilities and separate hostels for boys & girls .
TEACHING STAFF
Total faculty strength in MCA and BE is 19 . In addition to this , there are 6 visiting faculty members and 2 adjunct faculty members . Permanent faculty to student ratio is 1:18 .
CAMPUS PLACEMENT
Companies visited the Institute during previous years include names like Accenture , Indian Army , HCL , Infosys , Reliance . Out of 53 passed students 46 have been placed through campus interview in the year 2008.The average salary package offered in the campus interview was Rs. 4,00,000 per annum .
INDUSTRY LINKAGE
Birla Institute of Applied Sciences has signed an MOU with IBM ,under which the students are given training in their software , while faculty is invited to the training programmes conducted by them . This is followed by IBM assigning some projects to be carried out at the institute . For such work , IBM has also provided some hardware to the institute . Another such initiative taken by the institute is the establishment of a CISCO training academy for CCNA certification .
COST OF EDUCATION
Tuition fee for B . Tech. is Rs . 46,000 per annum and for MCA , it is Rs . 60,000 per annum . Estimated cost of boarding and lodging in hostel is Rs . 20,000 per annum from 2008 onwards .Fee is charged semester wise .
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
In B . Tech. courses ,admissions are done on the basis of AIEEE merit followed by State Counseling . Similarly admissions in MCA are done on the basis of UTUEE merit and counseling .
